JUEBENARIA is proud to sponsor a scholarship fund that intends to support Yoeme creatives, designers, artists, artisans, and entrepreneurs. Open to all self- identifying Yaqui individuals.

2 scholarships available for 2022

$2500 per scholarship

Yaqui Creatives are individuals who inform, evolve and energize Yoemia with their individual lived experiences through creative practices or pursuits.

All gifted with various skill-sets and passions, Yoeme creatives offer a combined past, present and future representation of emerging Yaqui narratives.

This scholarship intends to support the diverse efforts of Yaqui creatives, whether they are just starting out or have been in practice for awhile, this funding is meant to be a gift to empower creatives forward.

Congratulations to Julián Ibañez Mandujano and Vanessa Nino on being selected as the two recipients of the Yaqui Creatives Scholarship!

Julian intends to continue hosting and developing community workshops that help the youth in his city to begin their process of reclamation. He has organized Beading and Rattle-Making Workshops, Community Clean-ups and has worked closely with the Pomona Education Coalition to implement Ethnic Studies into local district’s K-12 curriculums.

In response to use of these funds,
@indigeknowledge said the following: “If given this opportunity, I would use these funds to continue this programming and take the youth in my community to local museums and events (i.e. the Sherman Indian Museum, the African Museum of Beginnings, Mexica New Year).

Vanessa intends to continue the “YO’FM: Pursuing Ancestral Medicine” podcast starting with co hosts, Vanessa Nino-Tapia & Cesar Barreras, who will be sharing their own mental health journey and how the podcast manifested in the first place, the two committed themselves to promoting the welfare of indigenous peoples through audio and visual media.

In response to use of these funds,
@pursuingancestralmedicine said: “With the financial support of this scholarship YO’FM would be granted a greater ability to reach a larger audience as we are right now limited to YouTube and Instagram. The hosts will also be able to access knowledge bases that encourage a greater understanding of podcasting and storytelling through online courses, invest in recording software and equipment including closed captioning software to make our medium more inclusive, and be able to expand initiatives for language preservation through song development in Yoem Noki.”
