Tucson’s colorful Yaqui Pascolas and Deer Dancers of Pascua Villiage in the northwest part of the city will present a rare dance for the public Sunday at their church. The Dance is being presented to aid Yaqui River flood victims who lost their homes during the recent flood in Sonora, Mexico.

In Sonora, Mexico, more than two centuries ago, Yaqui Indian women sat in the shade of their adobe homes during Lent and patiently fashioned, colorful flowers and trinkets. The women of the tribe were preparing for Easter festivities, and the tedious, careful designing was a labor of love and devotion to their religious beliefs.
